Staff Training
It is good practice for a local
authority to provide a universal training programme for school
staff (teaching and non-teaching) in anti-bullying
work. Training programmes could cover topics such as:
- developing an effective anti-bullying policy
- whole school approaches to preventing bullying
- implementing anti-bullying strategies (e.g. circle time)
- working with children and young people (e.g. peer
mentoring)
- types of bullying (e.g. physical, emotional, verbal, sexual,
cyber-related)
- bullying and discrimination (e.g. homophobic bullying)
- Using SEAL and the wider curriculum to tackle bullying
There are many good practice examples
from local authorities (see case studies).
