Equality Duties
PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE LEGAL DUTIES STILL APPLY
GOVERNMENT POLICY AND GUIDANCE PRE-MAY 2010 IS SUBJECT TO
REVIEW
As public authorities, schools are responsible for make sure
they meet their legal duties under the equalities strands.
Schools are now under increasing scrutiny from the government to
make sure these duties are met and from 2009 this will be directly
measured through the Office for Standards in Education, Children's
Services and Skills (Ofsted) inspection framework. There is a
strong emphasis within equality legislation on preventing
discrimination and harassment, which relates directly to
anti-bullying work within schools.
For further information on meeting the equality duties
see Legislation
on Equality and Diversity: A Guide for Schools (2007).
