Community Action Plan

PLEASE NOTE THAT  WHILE LEGAL DUTIES STILL APPLY GOVERNMENT POLICY AND GUIDANCE PRE-MAY 2010 IS SUBJECT TO REVIEW

Local authorities have a duty to address bullying more widely in the community, beyond schools. This can include bullying on public transport, in further education colleges and off-site education provision, in youth centres and other youth providers, in young offenders institutes and in care homes.

The local authority community action anti-bullying action plan can include:

• The production of anti-bullying guidance and resources that build on  Safe from Bullying: guidance for local authorities and other strategic leaders on reducing bullying in the community (DCSF, 2009)
• A training programme for relevant practitioners
• Anti-bullying conferences and events including the promotion of Anti-Bullying Week
• Model Anti-bullying policies to be used by various community settings
• Anti-Bullying initiatives and anti-bullying programmes
• Local anti-bullying Accreditation Schemes
• Local anti-bullying website
• Local anti-bullying newsletter
• Ensuring there is a complaints system that can respond to bullying in the community.
