Supporting Children and Young People
Identifying the provision needed to support
children and young people will be a critical part of any
anti-bullying strategy. Completing a thorough audit and
evaluation of the existing services in the local area, including
those delivered by community and voluntary agencies will give a
good starting point in this process.
The anti-bullying strategy should identify
local needs and priorities, and must involve consultation and
participation, particularly with schools. Allowing children
and young people to own and engage with policy and strategies will
increase its effectiveness.
Asking children and young people, their
parents and carers to suggest the support they need or services
they would use must be a critical part of this process. Many
local authorities already include this in the process of developing
the Children and Young People’s Plan.
