Creating a strategy group

Think about the key people in your area who can assist with the design and implementation of strategies to prevent and respond to bullying, both in schools and the wider community. 

 

Here are some suggestions for staff that you may wish to include:

 

  • Anti-Bullying Lead / Anti-Bullying Co-ordinator
  • Children’s Services e.g. behaviour support /education welfare / educational psychology / family support / parent partnership
  • PSHE and Citizenship Consultants
  • Safer Schools Partnership Officer
  • Safeguarding Officer (Local Safeguarding Children Board)
  • Diversity / Equalities Officer (s)
  • Disability Officer (s)
  • Police / Youth Offending Team
  • Youth Service
  • Health
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
  • School Headteachers
  • Trade Unions / Professional Associations
  • Voluntary Agencies with high profile in anti-bullying work
  • Housing
  • Educational Psychology Service
  • Transport providers

What are the strategy group’s responsibilities?

 

The strategy group will be responsible for

  • Auditing existing anti-bullying practice across the local authority area
  • Developing and reviewing anti-bullying strategy establishing the local priorities
  • Developing an action plan for an agreed time period
  • Producing an annual report relating to the action plan
  • Developing, reviewing and disseminating the anti-bullying policy
  • Developing, reviewing and disseminating anti-bullying guidance for schools and other organisations working with children and young people
  • Commissioning and developing anti-bullying support services, anti-bullying initiatives and resources, including referral services for children and the parents of children who are effected by bullying
  • Designing a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) / training programme for all relevant staff in preventing and responding to bullying
  • Embedding anti-bullying work in schools and the wider community

Promoting and supporting (including recommending funding sources) for the anti-bullying work of voluntary and community agencies

  • Collecting data to measure impact of anti-bullying strategies
