Updating LA guidance and training (Bury) - case study.doc

It is good practice for a local authority to offer a universal training programme for all staff that work with children and young people (teaching and non-teaching) in anti-bullying work.  Training programmes could cover topics such as:

  • developing an effective anti-bullying policy
  • whole school approaches to preventing bullying
  • implementing anti-bullying strategies (e.g. circle time)
  • working with children and young people (e.g. peer mentoring)
  • types of bullying (e.g. physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, cyber-related)
  • bullying and discrimination (e.g. homophobic bullying)
  • Using the wider curriculum to tackle bullying.
